How's 4 hours a week for work?

So I slept the whole day, my supposedly "whole day" comprised of minutes past my duty hours and the next time I will be on duty again. I'm a nurse you see, and in our land, Time for yourself means only one thing: SLEEP.

So I've been doing my regular blog walking, I missed blogging, lately I haven't had the chance to write anything, much else read anything worth while. I have stacks of books lined up, reading lists, to go to places, plans which remain plans until now. Then I came across this guy, who seemed to be having the time of his life at late twenties. I say to myself how does he do that? More importantly, is he the son of some rich family where work is optional?

I'm talking about Tim Ferriss. I was actually shocked that this guys name was mentioned beside Steve Jobs, may he rest in peace and thank you for my wonderful Ipod Touch by the way. Still, what's a 29 year old guys name doing beside Steve Jobs'? Simple, he seems to be living "the life". And he is in a place where most of the majority isn't. People are working their asses of for long hours myself included while he travels the world.

Tim Ferris is a writer, a writer, trader, a man of all sorts. And he isn't the heir of some big shot company, he made himself the way he is. He changed his lifestyle and tried to bend the dictates of what life should be. He tries to introduce the concept of 4 Hour work week. Yup you got that right, it's 4 not 40!

AT this day and age where life passes you like a speeding bullet, one moment your young and full of energy, the next all drained and dragging the days for that much promised retirement plan, I'd suggest you get to know this guy and live the life at 20's.

Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri gives up senatorial post.

Now Former Senator Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri gave up his post as senator due to the alleged tampering of votes in Mindanao during the 2007 senatorial elections.

Zubiri said that He had no participation in the tampering and alleged switching of votes. But having recieved information of such happening, he resigned from his post to show the people that he and his family does not tolerate winning out of cheating.

The former senator said "Ako ay bumitiw sa puwesto dahil gusto kong ibalik ang integridad ng aking pangalan at pamilya. Hindi po tayo nandaya." He has left the Department of Justice to decide on the matter based on evidences regarding the matter.

"Kung may nandaya po sa 2007 elections, wala po tayong kinalaman diyan."

"Hindi po tayo nandaya. Wala po tayong kinausap na mandaya para sa atin. Hindi po namin tatanggapin ang boto ng pandaraya,"

"Iyung mga ebidensiya, ilalabas naman po ng DOJ (Department of Justice) at Comelec (Commission on Elections)."

He also congratulated his long time rival Koko Pimentel and wished him good luck. His resignation however does not automatically mean that Pimentel will be assuming his post, the D.O.J. has yet to decide on the matter.

It's been a while since my last real entry. Lately it's been sleep-eat-work cycle for me. I'm not complaining though because I love my work, but It does really eat a lot of your time. And sometimes I wonder about the things that I've missed out on. See I figured that in 25 years, I've already spent a lot of time on matters of the heart, that's why I decided to put it on hold for a while, for wounds to heal. I sometimes wonder how long I will be saying no but thank you instead of yes. But I need more time, I'm almost there though and they say that if it's meant for you, love will stay, if it's true, it will never leave.

There's this children's book that I've loved ever since, If I were to be asked to describe Love, it would be through this bedtime story.

I want to blog today, this moment because a year from now I will revisit this blog and ask myself if I still feel the same! haha. From here on my breakfast will be red, metallic and something that vampires dig. I loved my work in the O.R. years back, I must admit that I loved medicine wards at first, but the operating room grew on me, that and the people working in it. It's acquired taste. Most people will automatically assume how obsessed you are with cleanliness and the order of things. And I am, I noticed I was now very particular with details, almost just isn't good enough anymore, sure is the way to go. I plan ahead, and anticipate every move, even in life. It taught me a lot of things, professionally and emotionally. Now, I'm back in that area again.

When I started years back, I was dead scared, now... I am excited, prepared and happy. Maybe because it's different this time, I don't have baggage outside of work to deal with, just work, friends, home and how to further my career.

Dear God,

Thank you, guide my hands to do your work, keep me alert, mindful and quick with my decisions so I can help save lives. I know I belong here in this field and have fought my way through. Thank you and I hope that on my shifts, people drive safer, forgive better, and reconcile faster so we can do away with direct and emergency surgeries. :) I'm excited to experience knee and shoulder arthroscopies btw. I'm praying the toxicness away!

Eurovision Song Contest 2011!!!

The Eurovision Song Contest started way back 1956 when War-torn Europe tried to reunite itself. What a way to bridge the gap right? By using the only language known to surpass any barrier... Music!

The European Broadcasting Union or E.B.U. wanted to unite countries belonging to E.B.U. through a light entertainment program hence the establishment of this annual Music Competition the Eurovision Song Contest. Through a single network, the contest will be shown in all participating countries where the winner will be selected through votes. It will also be shown in non participating countries across the globe like Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Egypt, India, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Uruguay. It will also be available live online!

Here's how the contest works:

Participating countries submit their songs which will be performed on live TV which will be transmitted through the Eurovision Network at the same time with all other participating countries.
The country is represented by one television network from their country.
Each year, one of the participating countries will be hosting the contest
After the songs have been performed, the voting will start, however nations are not allowed to cast their votes for their own country, thus they cannot vote for their own song. In that spirit, they will be able to choose which song they really loved.
The winner will be the country who bags the most votes.

The Royal Wedding on April 29, 2011

The world is excited for the wedding of Prince William and his future wife Catherine Elizabeth Middleton or Kate Middleton as known by many. They're romance budded when both Prince William and Kate went to the same university (University of St. Andrews) and became flat mates. They're not an ordinary couple. There was a time when the prince and Kate decided to call the relationship off. The attention and paparazzi took it's toll on the relationship. This happened when Prince William pursued his career in the army. However the two remained friends and rekindled their relationship back now on their way to tying the knot. On 16th November, 2010, Kate Middleton and Prince William announced their plans to marry in the new year.

Everybody wants to know the future princess and queen so Let's get to know Kate.Kate is the eldest child of Michael and Carole Middleton of Bucklebury, Berkshire, She studied at the exclusive Marlborough College. Kate was a well loved peer and student. Friends, Classmates, Professors described her to be talented, sporty, popular and level headed. She used to work side by side with her family's business.

Kate Middleton and her family will be staying at the Goring Hotel prior to the wedding. The wedding will be held in Westminster Abbey. The Church will be open to the "general congregation" at 8:15am but the wedding will officially start i at 11:00, The ceremony will be broadcast on loud speakers along the route of the carriage procession, on the way to Buckingham Palace.

It is customary for the royal couple to appear on the balcony overlooking the Mall with their families where the Royal Air Force will perform a fly past with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Thoughts on death.

A lot of things have been centered about death today, for one the news is full of it about a young actor’s accident, and it’s puzzling how people tend to always utter the same things when faced with such events, live to the fullest, tell the people you love that you love them. In reality there is no amount of preparation for the inevitable, one thing I’ve learned is that we face death the moment we are born, we are predestined to die. The only difference is how soon, or in what manner we’ll face our own deaths. Truly I feel sorry for the people who have been left behind. I know the pain and anguish and shock that comes with loosing someone. After the initial shock you might live on the edge for a while, or with extra carefulness one way or another. And then life goes on. But after loosing someone you now realize how volatile life is and now you’re woken up from the concept that there will always be tomorrow, because that’s not true for everyone. Death affects each one of us differently, the only constant thing about it is it changes you and how you look at the world. Yesterday you heard about it, you sympathized with people who have experienced it, but if you’re wearing the shoe of one who has been left behind you realize that many things that seem important to you don’t matter anymore. It’s just a journey and every journey ends. Having discovered this, the weak person that you used to be becomes resilient, sometimes indifferent and tougher. The things that used to plague your simple life stop bothering you. You tackle on the next problem knowing that there will be more to come but you are not afraid. You drop the concept of forever, you realize that although love does not last, so does sorrow.

For some, and I can feel it happening to me, Happiness, like life is also fleeting. Expecting good things to be gone the second it arrives. And you can choose to continue living like this, safe, without fear, but also alone. I've always wondered how certain people can live alone, not bothered by what the future holds for them. I used to, but now I know. Sometimes people don't bother with life at all because it's going to end anyway, one way or another. And rather than having to put up with the trouble of mending or building new relationships, they make do with what they already have. For some, this turn in life can be viewed as a halt... stopping ones self from furthering experiences... in other words stop living.

But it all depends on how you want your life to turn out. Live in the safety net, away from the things that can hurt you thus staying away from feeling anything towards anyone. Or challenge life, that tragic event can't possibly be the end of it, If death will take me one day then let it be a happy death where I can take all the smiles, tears and experiences that life has to offer.

But We can't judge. I can't judge the people who chose which path they want to take because No one can determine how life will treat the person. Life can throw more rocks even after a boulder crashed yours moments ago, or it can send you resting on a bed of petals, the calm after the storm. No one can tell, everyone is different. Our fates may be entwined but the reality is some people die in anguish, some die peacefully, some die with unfinished things and some die at the peak of their success.

I feel stupid for having written this entry because when I reach a conclusion, I contradict myself a few seconds later. I was thinking of an ending but I can go on, with my inner battles forever and one blog entry won't be enough. With all these though, we have to learn to accept our mortality and what little time we have left.

Crazy little thing called LOVE!

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, my entire body was aching due to repetitively trying to revive dummies yesterday. Good thing my brother told me to watch this movie called Crazy little thing called Love. It's a Thai movie about puppy love! I was laughing and crying and laughing almost like a lunatic because of the different characters in the movie. It may seem like it was made for kids but I'm sure kid's at heart will find it alluring too. I can identify with the character of Nam, childish crushes, butterflies, consulting love advice books, it's as if I can almost relieve my elementary and high-school years! Since it's on youtube, I'd like to share the movie clips here!

When thoughts become words.

The worst things in the world for me are...

...when people think they can play with your feelings, hide and seek, tag your it? Love is never a game, and the heart is not a playground.

what most people don't know about me...

...I am very indecisive, I take my time in ordering, I spend years trying to ponder decisions but once I make them, I am almost always certain and not likely to change my mind.

I believe...

that love is common, but true love is rare.

I know...

that I don't know everything, and everyday is a new page, every experience a teacher and every mistake a life long lesson I hope I never make again.

Now I know that silence means...

...silence, nothing more, nothing less. To expect is suicide, to assume is to be damned.

I understand now...

who am I not to bear with the faults of others, when they too are bearing with mine. Revenge is sweet only in the first few seconds of it. The guilt will hunt you all the days of your life.

True kindness is measured by...

its extension even to those who have been unkind. It's easy to show kindness to the people who have not done you wrong, but extremely difficult to those who have done you wrong.

are the hardest things to say.

Take risks...

even if there's a one in a million chance of it coming full circle. I'd rather live with the possibility of something than nothing at all.

There is an end to everything,

make sure you see the finish line or you'll go running extra miles on your way to nothing.

Always have a contingent plan on everything important, especially hard drives.

Having abroken heart is a good sign.

Minimally Invasive and Robotic Colorectal Surgery Updates

My supervisor from the O.R. called me up last week to tell me two good news. One I'd like to keep for myself awhile longer, the other was about a seminar on Minimally Invasive and Robotic Colorectal Surgery which will be held in Diamond Hotel in Manila. I was still in shock when she called me up that I'm not sure if I heard the title of the seminar correctly. I think all I heard were the terms... Robotic, surgery and seminar. She encouraged me to attend in preparation for the first news I got from her. :)

I already attended a seminar of similar nature which involved basic instrumentation when it comes to laparoscopic surgeries. That was when I first met Maryland, the 9 million worth Tower, trochars of different sizes, grasper and metz. Back at work, I've managed to assist in several Laparoscopic cholecystectomies. I've learned to appreciate the wonders of Minimally Invasive surgeries having spent most of my time assisting in open surgeries. In Lap Chole, the patient is still put under General Anesthesia but a large difference was in the incisions made and the estimated recovery period of the patient. Undeniably, the trend in surgeries have shifted drastically through the years from the traditional open surgery to Laparoscopic surgery and now Robotic Surgery.

LAPAROSCOPIC COLORECTAL SURGERY

Let me talk about Laparoscopic Colorectal surgeries first because it's relatively new here in the Philippines. It's not yet done in USTH because we've managed to assist mostly in Lap Chole Cases and I've heard that they also do Lap Appendectomies in the Pay division, however Lap Colorectal surgery is all together new and in my opinion amazing. It is already done in the Philippine General Hospital with surgeons trained outside of the country. Most are Laparoscopic assisted cases but they've also done total Lap surgeries. Fascinating. MIS techniques have definitely been incorporated even in rectal cancer management.

I must admit that the open surgical management of Colorectal cancers are tedious and usually subjects the patient to a longer recovery period. I will only talk about the role O.R. nurses like myself have on the surgery. I vaguely remember assisting in surgical procedures like extended hemicolectomies, right, transverse or left. And there are times when almost majority of the Bowel is removed. Tedious because the surgeons take great care in preserving the marginal arteries. That's where your fine tip kellies, silk ties and scissors play hand in hand. Wait for the resection of the affected Colon and prepare you ochsners and angulated clamps and the most tedious part of it all... the anastomosis if possible. No to mention preparing a double set up for surgeries like APRs.

The Beauty of Minimally Invasive Surgeries is that large incisions are minimalized to a few darting holes. instead of sporting large battle wounds, you can now get away with just a few scratches, minimal stitches and probably some band aids. In the said seminar the organizers allowed us to familiarize ourselves with different instruments used in the procedure. I've met Endo GIA used in complete Laparoscopic procedures, Circular Staplers for rectal anastomosis used for mid and low rectal tumors, linear staplers for Lap assisted cases and the TA 45 cutter that cuts ands staples at the same time again for Lap assisted cases. Goodbye suture entanglements! :)

What are the advantages of Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopic/Robotic) Surgeries?

smaller surgical incisions
a fairly acceptable cosmetic result
earlier return of bowel function for Laparoscopic colectomies
reduced postoperative adhesions ( the less manipulation done, the lesser the inflammation that comes with it)
Better operative exposure
Preoperative Bowell Preparations usually not required
Less operative pain
reduced hospital stay
quick recovery and return to full activity
fewer wound infections

Convinced? How do you know then if you are fit to undergo MIS? the patient must not:

previous abdominal surgeries done
suffer from coagulation problems
suffer from Congestive heart failure and
Cardiac diseases or COPD's

Every Surgery entails risks, with MIS...

there is always a possibility to convert to open surgery. That's why a set is always on stand by for possible open.
Peritonitis from Carbon Toxicity, the peritoneum is insuflated with Carbon Dioxide to expand the working space.
Incisional Hernias

Just a quick reminder for OR nurses, Lap Collorectal surgeries are a little bit different from Lap Chole's. Sometimes the tumor cannot be located through the cameras and an intra-op scope may be required. Most of the time though the location of the tumor is tattooed during colonoscopies. Another reminder emphasized by Dr. Paul Lopez from PGH is the need to always ready a major set because sometime in the operation they will need to make an incision in order to extract the specimen. There are new techniques though where an incision is not made anymore and the extraction is done transanal.

Recent advances in surgery include single port access (scarless) surgeries where specimens can be extracted through the umbillicus which is a natural orifice thus the scarless effect used in simple Laparoscopic surgeries like Lap Appendectomys and Cholecystectomys. In Colon Surgeries, surgeons have adapted a "Hybrid" Technique where the specimen is extracted through the rectum oviating the need to extend the incision.

ROBOTIC SURGERY

Now that we're done with Lap and Lap assisted cases I'd like to talk about my favorite part of the seminar.

Let's talk about Da Vinci!

I've encountered Da Vinci in one of my favorite medical Dramas: Greys Anatomy, he's the robot Dr. Baily's inlove with! The good news is there are already two Da Vinci's here i the Philippines! Yey! We have one in The Medical City and in St. Lukes Global City!

In a Robotic Asssited Surgery, the surgeon performs the procedure via a special viewing and control console. The console controls the Robotic arms with all the endowrist instruments (precise instrumentation and comparable to wrist motion of the human hand) attached with it. The robotic arms are inserted into the body through small incisions similar to laparoscopic surgeries. The instruments are smaller, more precise and easily movable for easy disection and suturing. The surgeon's view of the operation is in 3D through the console.

What are the common applications of Robotic Surgery? According to the seminar, the most common applications are:

Prostate cancers
Kidney cancers
Urinary bladder cancers
Colorectal cancers
Gynecologic tumors and
Thyroid conditions

Advantages of Robot Assisted Surgery:

limited damage to muscles, blood vessels, nerves and other surrounding tissue
minimal blood loss
relatively less operative pain thus less pain medications
minimal infection risk
minimal scarring
relatively shorter hospital confinement
faster recovery and return to normal body function

Amazing isn't it? The times are changing indeed. :)

Is Masashi Kishimoto dead?

Yes I am not ashamed to admit that I am a long time follower of the manga and anime series Naruto. I've never missed watching an episode except for the numerous fillers! I wanted to blog about this because since the devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake and Tsunami in Japan, people have been posting queries if the author of Naruto: Mr. Masashi Kishimoto was killed. Modesty aside, me and the rest of the world was genuinely worried for everyone's safety in Japan, but after the initial shock, like all Naruto and Anime followers, you really can;t help but wonder if the authors and animators of your favorite series are well and safe.

Is Masashi Kishimoto dead?

Truth is I don't know either, just that Naruto manga is still updated. Let's just hope for his safety and not kill the guy in our minds. Also he is from okayama perfecture, quite far from the site of the tsunami. fingers crossed. I love Naruto too and it's getting intense with all the war with Madara and the dead resurected to fight the people they used to care about. Disturbing, wicked and exciting! I'd love to see how all 5 Kages will deal with Madara and Zetsu.

I really wish Kishimoto has enough chakra to stay safe. :)

I fed my playlist with awesome music

Elated with the music I've managed to secure today. Both my favorite bands have managed to produce yet again great albums! I'm talking about the Script and Maroon Five. I can't stop listening. The Script album Science and Faith contains 10 songs in total. And I can't pick a favorite because every track is on my repeat list! They're scheduled to have a concert here in the Philippines on April 16 and I've heard that most of the tickets are already sold out. Maroon Five on the other hand is back with an album titled Hands all over. Have you seen their latest video: Never gonna leave this bed? They really didn't have to sell skin to put that track on number one but what the heck, I'll take all the bonuses I can get! Absolutely mesmerizing and upbeat, quite the combo but they've managed to put that all in their new album. Another thing, I've noticed the scripts songs have mainly focused on letting go and moving on, The Man who can't be moved was on the same line but this whole album screams of it. Good deal for the broken hearted? Let me share a couple of the tracks you have to watch out for.

Japan's 9th day after the now 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami. I am praying everyday that they get through this. People are fighting in other parts of the world, while the Japanese are barely holding on to survive this disaster. The Nuclear Crisis is now raised to Level 5. The authorities are now thinking of how to subdue or decrease the radiation exposure by burying the plants in sand. Heroes are working there as of the moment, knowing they're exposed in radiation but still staying and trying to fix what can be fixed.

Vision is what drives us to keep going. It's a tragedy how people neglect their capacity to improve, correct or enable themselves to appreciate the beauty of everything around them just because they are busy. I've known people who can't even so much as eat a proper meal because of the demands at work. A 15 minute pause is golden, and going shopping almost non existent. The whole world lay in shock with the news that a magnitude 8.9 earthquake hit Japan with a 24.4 depth in Kilometer. The strongest they've had in decades and the 7th strongest they've had in history. A Devastating Tsunami hit the shores of Japan seconds after the earthquake taking with it ships, vehicles, homes and people. Cracks on the roads, building and homes have been seen in Sendai, northeast of Tokyo the closest city to the epicenter when the ground shook. Many of the people are still unable to contact their loved ones as phone lines are still down. There have been reports that the death toll may surpass 1,000 according to the Kyodo news agency in Japan. Japanese broadcaster NHK reposrts 900 have been killed and 700 more are missing. According to the Kyodo News Service, approximately 9,500 people are still unaccounted for in the Miyagi perfecture in the town of Minamisanriku. The residents are now panic buying for food and gas. Supermarkets have been emptied of their supplies, and the government has limited Gas sales to 20 L per vehicle. Almost 250 aftershocks rising above the magnitude of 5.0 and at least 50 above magnitude 60 have been felt in the country. The people of Japan are relatively used to feeling the tremors of earthquakes, but most are very worried that the aftershocks may cause more tsunamis.

Reports are now centered on the possible melt down of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Facility as reports of explosions and increased radioactive exposure reports have started coming in. Authorities say that 3 meltdowns have been presumed to have happened in three of the facility's nuclear reactors. The Tokyo electric company said that 4 workers have been injured by an explosion that happened in the facility. The concrete housing of the structure apparently exploded but they said that the reactors were still intact. They were planning to inject water to its core with hopes that the reactor will cool down to its normal temperature. The evacuation area has been extended until 20 Kilometers from the plant. Reports say that the explosions in the nunclear power plant were not caused by the reactors, but by water vapors which resulted from their efforts of cooling the reactors according to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano. The government are planning to disperse stable iodine, a substance to prevent poisoning from radiation to the populace inhabiting the surrounding perimeter of the plant according to International Atomic Energy Agency. There have been reports that the Agency released radioactive steam in order to control the temperature of the Nuclear reactors. Latest reports say that 15 people have already been exposed to radiation. 180,000 residents who are living 10-20 kilometers from the perimeter of the Nuclear Power Plant are now being evacuated.

The 8.9 magnitude earthquake and Tsunami are believed to have caused the earth to shift from its axis, moving the islands of Japan by approximately 8 feet according to United States Geological Surveys Geophysicists reports.

Dozens of aftershocks are still being felt in Japan, Saturday. 50 of which exceeded a magnitude of 6.0.

Earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand

Christchurch New Zealand was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake early afternoon today. Buildings collapsed, roads cracked and buses and vehicles crushed by falling debris on various sites. People were still at work most of which were trapped in buildings when the earthquake struck. Fires have also been reported among the collapsed buildings which makes rescue efforts riskier and harder.

Medical assistance and emergency medical triage were set up while the army assisted in search and rescue for survivors who were trapped underneath and over collapsed buildings. Flooding were also reported in various parts of Christchurch as water mains and pipes break and seep water over the roads.

New Zealand's Director for Civil Defense Mr. John Hamilton said that the earthquake was a level 3 crisis.

Civil Defense advice for victims:

Check yourself first for injuries and get first aid if necessary before helping injured or trapped persons.
Assess your home or workplace for damage. If the building appears unsafe get everyone out. Use the stairs, not an elevator and when outside, watch out for fallen power lines or broken gas lines. Stay out of damaged areas.
Look for and extinguish small fires if it is safe to do so. Fire is a significant hazard following earthquakes.
Listen to the radio for updated emergency information and instructions.
Do not overload phone lines with non-emergency calls.
Help people who require special assistance - infants, elderly people, those without transportation, families who may need additional help, people with disabilities, and the people who care for them.
Detailed safety advice will come from local authorities and emergency services in the area. People should act on it promptly. MCDEM, local civil defence authorities and scientific advisors are closely monitoring the situation.

I had a blast this January :) A lot of good things have been coming my way since the start of the year and a lot of good change too. I hope February will be kind aswell. It so cold! I fished out my comforters and trusty blankets, I used to be able to sleep with just a flat sheet, not today, not this month! I wonder how much iceberg is melting right now, the climate is very unpredictable. I'm saving a lot of gas by driving with my windows down, I'm just worried about the rain. The other day Manila was again a swamp of dirty flood water. I pray that I will never have to use the term river.

There's been a lot of talk about the Zodiac sign thing and some find it a good thing, some weirded out. I know it's not a national emergency, but it found it's way on our evening news. I'm a fan of Horoscopes, when I was in high school, I got suspended for tardiness all because I didn't want to leave the house without watching Madame Zenaida Seva's horoscope portion on the local morning show. Sick huh? I just find it entertaining. My friend Krisna and I look up our birthcharts every now and then, most specially when we're sad and find instant happiness and entertainment there! Who won't if you read that your destined for a super hot greek god look alike right?

Things Babies Born in 2011 Will Never Know

No form of technology can ever substitute the feeling of flipping the page of the book in my hand. I'm so sorry dead trees, but I refuse to read my favorite books on a computer.

Yes emailing is the most convenient, reliable and efficient way of getting your messages across, but It will never replace the excitement of receiving and reading a hand written letter. I love blogging, and immortalizing my thoughts through writing. I spend 5-10 minutes to write a simple article, 30 min to an hour for a personal blog entry but a whole day to write the perfect handwritten love letter. No other person will be able to read that letter unless the person I gave it to chooses to disclose it.

I've learned not to treat my phone as an extension of my body. I usually leave my phone lying around especially when I don't want to be reached. My Literature professor in college chose not to own a cellular phone. I envy him, for having the resolve to show th world the value of privacy. I used to be one of those people who can't leave the house without their phone, but I've gradually practiced leaving that dreadful thing occasionally. :) God forbid people who want to trace the places where I've been. Might as well put me on a leash if that was the case.

I remember a conversation I had with someone about owning a CD of our favorite band. I'm a fan of itunes, ipods, mp3's you name it. But I still keep CD's of my favorite sonatas, orchestras, bands.

lastly.. Hiding. And I do this often. I want to be able to disappear whenever I want to.

Supreme Court acquits Hubert Webb from Vizconde Massacre Case

15 years since the gruesome incident of the Vizconde massacre, Hubert Webb the son of former senator Freddie Webb along with the other suspects Antonio "Tony Boy" Lejano, son of actress Pinky de Leon, Michael Gatchalian and Miguel Rodriguez, both of whom are the sons of prominent Lawyers, Peter Estrada the son of a wealthy businessman; Pyke Fernandez, son of a retired commodore; and former police officer Gerardo Biong have been acquitted from the heinous Vizconde massacre case.

7 of the supreme court justices voted for acquittal, 4 opted to abstain because of the apparent familiarity with the defendants and their families while 4 justices voted for conviction.

The decision was based on the the failure of the prosecution to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt according to the Supreme Courts spokes person Jose Midas Marquez. Furthermore, the supreme court ordered the the suspects immediate release unless held for another lawful cause.

Lauro Vizconde, the husband and father of the victims Estrellita Vizconde and her daughters Carmela and Jennifer, found himself at a lost upon hearing the acquittal of the suspects.

Looking back, the nation has waited for the Supreme Courts' decision on the case when the police failed to retrieve the last evidence that could have changed the outcome of the case: the sperm specimen found on Carmela's body which apparently was lost.

The Webb's presented evidence that Hubert Webb was in the United States when the murders happened. They were able to produce documentation of Webs arrival and entry in the states.

On the other hand the case' star witness Jessica Alfaro who is now residing in the US with her husband and former body guard told the court that she was with the suspects on the night of the murder. Each of them taking shabu in turn and plotted the rape of Carmela whom Hubert Webb was apparently smitten with, according to Alfaro.

After the much publicized Vizconde Massacre Case and now the suspects acquittal, Who then were responsible for the Mureder of the Vozconde Family?

According to the SC spokesperson: “The court will decide cases in accordance with facts, whether the decision is popular or unpopular.”

The odds of being so close and so far at the same time scares me. I always say I don't want to push anything any further, the truth is I can't tell where my thoughts of you end and your thoughts of me begin... if there ever was a beginning of anything...

The years will stretch and you can disappear, as I can pretend that none of these feelings exist. But my stomach will still jump at the mention of your name, and I know your heart will pound harder and faster at the smallest almost insignificant touch of our skin.

We just moved in our new house! An early christmas present :) I love it here, i love my new room, our neighbors are kind and very helpful. I've got instant friends and my dogs seem happier because now they have a space they can run around in. I love the color of our house, the lights are great, we managed to save some from dad's old business. I feel like this house is a collection of memories... good ones! Thank you papa God, for giving me a shelter over my head.

For christmas I wish for peace of mind, I'm actually close to it. There have been a lot of changes in my life and It feels like I've made the right decisions. I've finally settled with the ghost of christmas past or so it seems. Sometimes in order to realize you meant to be for something greater you have to let go of the things you once had. You have to make room, and I feel like I have a lot of room for good change right now. I generally am always happy now. Things are simple, I don't depend on anyone anymore, but I've got a few people who I choose to include in my life not out of need but of want.

Anyhow, Lets get to business, christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I love gifts, i love giving and receiving them :P here's my wish list!

1. new tires... please papa God I need r14 tires, 2 infact because I already purchased 2 new tires last september. Bridgestone would be great haha, but i feel like imma get myself these for myself. But if ever someone gives me these babies then thank you :)

2. IPOD dock with great speakers. I am always listening to music, can't drive without it. And I have a killer playlist :) It'll really give my room an umph! my laptop's speakers aren't that awesome.

3. white musk perfume from body shop, throw in the body mist, shower gel and lotion please! I can't believe I gave those things as a gift for someone and never managed to buy myself a set.

4. Lotion, shower gel and soap set of China Blue from marks and spencer. I love the scent :)

5. new contact lenses. I will probably get these for myself too :)

Cambodia Stampede kills 349 people

November 23, 2010- Cambodia

349 Cambodians died and 500 were injured after a stampede broke out during a festival in Cambodia. The incident started on an island called Koh Pich/ Diamond Island where concerts and exhibitions were held. Hundreds were trampled on composed mainly of women, elderly and children. Internal Bleeding and Asphyxiation were believed to be the cause of death of most of the victims.

According to the prime minister Hun Sen, the stampede was the biggest tragedy that happened in their country in 31 years since the change of regime. Eyewitnesses say that the panic started when 10 people lost consciousness in the jam-packed crowd. The authorities estimated that over two million people joined the festivities of the Bon Om Touk, a 3 day festival which marks the end of the rainy season for its main attraction: traditional boat races along the river.

When the stampede erupted, a huge crowd of people jammed up a bridge in an attempt to escape. People fell over one another and there were also those who fell in the water. Authorities are also searching for bodies in the river after the incident.

Survivors said that they were caught on shock and were holding on to dear life. Those who were strong enough managed to escape while those who could not defend themselves ended up injured or dead. There were cries everywhere but no help can be done as each person tried not to get trampled on. Eyewitnesses after the event said that there were bodies everywhere, dead, injured or the unconscious stacked on each other.

A National Day of mourning was set on Thursday. Flags were raised half staffed. The government ordered financial help to the victims for funeral costs and medical help. The government will provide 5 million riel or $1,250 for the funeral expenses and 1 million riel or $250 for each injured person.

Further investigations were ordered to rule out the cause of the tragedy.

The North and South Korea dispute has been going on for years, Families have been separated, people brain washed, artillery and nuke production prioritized over the people's welfare. I've watched documentaries about the North Korea's propaganda movement and it truly is disturbing. Kids are raised learning hate songs about America instead of growing up with nursery rhymes. Cities were built for show to cover for what's really going on beyond the city. People eating tree barks and mud because of hunger. Imagine a sky scraper Hotel built for th sake of show. Try going there and you'll find yourself alone checked in the entire hotel. Spot the Traffic enforcer who traffics tirelessly in a completely empty road. Disturbing, alarming and incredibly horrifying.

Today, the whole world almost stopped breathing when news of North Korea's bombing reached the news. According to the reports, South Korea bombed Yeonpyeong island, located near the border of both countries on the peninsula’s west coast. The island had a civilian population, the bombing reportedly killed two and wounded fourteen soldiers.

A statement from the United Nation Secretary Ban Ki Moon referred to the bombing as one of the gravest incidents since the Korean War. Apparently the animosity between the two warring countries intensified due to a prior incident when a south Korean ship was sunk claiming the loves of 46 sailors.

Even China, the only country who seem to maintain a relationship with North Korea viewed the incident as very undesirable and has expressed cocern over news of a new Uranium enrichment plant.

I had a good day today, all because of the fact that I chose to say good morning to a certain person I have not greeted for quite some time. Yes, I can go on as if I can continue living without certain people in my life. But I choose to include them. It's on me, whom I choose to include and not to include. It is also true that I can live without these people, but life is sweeter, and I smile better even from a simple conversation or an imaginary mug of good coffee. I seem to have this wall around me right now but I've come up with a very good solution to that wall... a gate. A gate where I let in people whom I have no bad memory of. There are a lot of them actually. I think of a name and remember the good stuff and I let them in.

I am excited for a lot of things. For the most part, I'm preparing for something big. the next would be our now almost finished house. I love the color of my room, the long window, the smell of fresh paint, shopping for furniture, our kitchen counter top everything about it! I'm excited for harry potter, for Christmas, my friends whom I've been hiding from for quite some time now, I'm excited to see my relatives my niece who is so adorable when her mom told me she remembered me the other day saying I was the "maputi, sexy and pretty aunt" :D kids don't lie you know? I love her and my other nieces. I feel good this days. I look forward to waking up everyday. I hope this leveled happiness sticks on me like super glue. I don't really need super happy, just happy. :)

My friend and I were talking the other night about reality. Her dad told her that she was like the hare, too confident that he's faster than the turtle so he slept, and in the end the turtle won the race. And she replied, yes, the turtle won the first time, but the hare won 9 times out of ten there after. Because in reality, the hare will always be faster than the turtle.

I was out of words for a moment. There it was, black and white. A part of me wanted to tell my friend that she was right and a huge part of me was protesting. I wanted to believe turtles can win every time but biology was a steady branch of science for me to argue with.

I just... wanted to believe. And I realized I was a blind believer of sorts. I believe people can change. I believe that no matter how bad or incredibly insensitive a person may be, deep down there's a flicker of goodness, sensitivity or kindness. I believe strangers before I even entertain the thought of suspecting that their up to no good. I believe in waiting, and I trust my instincts. I say yes or no with my heart more than I do using my head which always gets me in trouble.

I read a letter somewhere, I forgot where but it went...

"I don't understand how you went from my main character to nothing..."

I don't want to write other chapters, I don't want to flip the page. If I'm writing my life, I wouldn't even bother writing an ending if I can stay stuck on a favorite page.

I just finished watching How to train your dragon a few minutes ago, I've been waiting to download a good copy for quite some time now.

I'm a sucker for dragon movies... I will forever love the movie Dragon Heart. It always, and never fails to bring me to tears. I watched it with my dad when I was no more than 10 I think? It was so beautiful that when asked about a favorite movie the first thing that comes to my mind was dragon heart. Maybe that's why I have a soft spot for animals in the first place, just like my dad or my brother, because we were brought up watching movies like this.

Few measure up to this movie, even the scoring was the best scoring I've heard so far. Who wouldn't think of Dragons with just a few notes from this melody? I can only think of the infamous Titanic thanks to Celine Dion or Disney's Circle of Life, or The Lord of The Rings' scoring for the Riders of Rohan the Rohirim.

I was genuinely clapping my hands and giggling in laughter when I watched How to train your dragon and was seriously considering naming my next dog toothless! I will never delete this movie and I'm pretty sure my child/children (if God will give me any) will grow up with these dragon movies!

Oh and more of dragons, I've been reading up and watching Fairy Tail, also with dragons and dragon slayers in it!

For those who missed watching How to train your dragon here's what it's all about. Damn, I felt better watching this than when I watched Inception or Avatar! haha

Broadway Dream.

It has always been my dream to get on a plane to New York and watch Broadway musicals to my heart's content. There are a few things I want to be able to do before I die and watching Broadway has always been one of them.

My best bud promised she'd accompany me when I get there! I guess it pays to have a bestfriend who lives on the Broadway City, now I just need to figure out how I can get a visa and get there! These are the musicals I want to watch: The Lion King, Little Mermaid, RENT and The Phantom of the Opera.

I liked the movie but people always tell me that the movie sucked compared to the theater version. I need to see it, I need to see the Big chandelier, I need to feel Erik's pain when Christine chose Raul. I need to watch the Circle of Life, I need to see Under the sea, kiss the girl and Ariel my childhood Disney princess. :(

I have all these dreams that I want to achieve and they're not even about money. Well except the big house with the big first floor pool with a slide from the second floor which will take u directly to the pool :) Aside from that it's all about seeing the world, different places, eating pasta in Rome and making wishes. I need to keep dreaming, my friend said I needed to protect those dreams and I am.

Here's why I want to watch Broadway, I need not describe why, If you even take a few seconds to watch it surely you'll understand. :)

Suspected Pillbox Explodes at 2010 Bar Operations at DLSU

Barristers were reportedly hurt as suspected pillbox explodes at 2010 Bar Operations at the De Lasalle University (DLSU) at 5:15 p.m. today.

It is once again time for the Bar Examinations as new hopefuls strive to make the elusive ATTY.

However Bar Exam takers were shocked when a suspected pill box exploded at the 2010 Bar Operations held at the DLSU grounds at around 5pm today.

Reports say 5 San Beda students sustained burn and shrapnel injuries while one UP dilliman student was hurt due to the commotion. a total of 24 civilians were hurt according to reports. The injured were brought to Ospital ng Maynila and the Manila Adventist Hospital.

The investigators are looking at the angle of frat rumble as blast cause. These are yet to be verified and confirmed. They are already investigating whether the explosion was caused by two waring fraternities.

Surgical Site Infection Updates

I attended a seminar update on preventing surgical site infections sponsored by The Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines and Johnson & Johnson in the Discovery suites Ortigas Avenue last Monday.

It was a very enriching and informative seminar especially for Surgeons and OR nurses. The Seminar covered topics on Risk Reduction Strategies on Surgical Site Infections and Evidence Based Studies on Surgical Care Improvement Projects.

The speaker was Dr. Charles E. Edmiston Jr., PhD, MS, CIC: a Professor of Surgery and Hospital Epidemiologist specializing in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Surgical Microbiology Research Laboratory and Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital.

Dr. Edmiston introduced a surgical care improvement project that is being practiced in the states as of the moment which consisted of Four specific preventive factors which include:

Antimicrobial prophylaxis- the administration of procedure specific preoperative antibiotics following a strict time frame
Temperature control- controlling hypothermia
Glycemic control
The use of surgical clippers to remove hair from the surgical site

The SCIP project was was formed by a partnership of national organizations with the goal of a 25% reduction in surgical complications by 2010. Dr. Edmiston showed us various evidence based studies regarding these four specific preventive factors.

There are pre-existing factors that increase a surgical patient's risk for Surgical SIte Infections which include:diabetes,obesity,nicotine use, malnutrition, and use of immunosuppressive medications (ex. steroids). But there are also those that the members of the medical team do that may put the patient at risk.

In the Philippines, I've noticed that shaving the surgical site has been a common practice, they say it is very hard to keep the site sterile when it is hairy, however according to recent studies, shaving may cause more harm than help. Shaving the incision site is for the convenience of the surgeon and not for the patient thus in the states, surgical clipping is now practiced. Shaving can cause micro abrasions not seen by the naked eye which can be prone to infection. The talk also emphasized the importance of measuring the person's BMI. the higher the BMI, the lower the concentration of the prophylactic antibiotic in the patient. Thus leads to an increased dosage.

However Dr. Edmiston said that no matter how the hospitals adhered to the SCIP project, recent evaluation on the project showed little change in the numbers of infected cases which lead to another project which he called The Comprehensive Risk Management.

The comprehensive Risk Management program discussed:

Preoperative showers/antiseptic cleansing
In the states, patients are advised to do preoperative showers the night before and the morning before the actual surgical procedure to reduce bacterial flora in the skin surface this proved rather effective. However, these showers differ in the antiseptic agents used.

The medical team also does surgical scrubbing prior to the procedure to reduce bacterial flora in the hands and arms. However here in the Philippines we are still used to using Povidone Iodine antiseptic soaps. Recent studies show that a new type of antiseptic agent used in the states which contains alcohol Chlorhexidine Gluconate or Alcohol CHG as a superior antiseptic agent in showers and surgical scrubbing. The agent prevents the regrowth of microorganisms for hours as opposed to iodine and alcohol only based agents.

Biomedical Devices

Caps, gloves and masks are integral to the prevention of Infection in surgical procedures. However studies show that these devices do not really completely protect the health care team nor tha patient as we thought it did.

Masks, we are so used to the normal masks we wear in the OR, but notice the open spaces at the sides of our cheeks. It's not fitted snuggly like TB masks right? But TB masks are a pain to wear, the team gets claustrophobic just by wearing them. however recent studies show that most of the infection suffered by patient come from the Surgical Teams Naso Pharyngeal Shedding. After we wear the mask for an hour, a process called venting happens. Dr. Edmiston and his team tried to trace a series of infections and took the swabs of various members of the medical team. The swabs were examined weather they matched the strain of the bacteria affecting the surgical patients. Surprisingly, the infections matched the bacterial strains found in the medical teams nasopharyngeal swabs.

Gloves, I never really believed that gloves provided full protection for the patient and for the medical team. Most colleagues would know this, because they probably experienced incidents where no gove perforation were noted, however blood still appeared inside the gloves. This might be explained by the development of micro-perforations. We can't see them but they are there. And they usually appear in procedures that require great hand movements say orthopedic cases? wear and tear applies only our naked eyes can't see them. Now there is this new glove technology that was developed in the states, it is fairly new but Dr. Edmiston described it as the Anti Microbial glove. The anti microbial glove had three layers, buy the important layer here is the middle layer. It is loaded with antimicrobials. and according to the study they conducted, bacterial flora culture produced was significantly lowered from a value of 290 to 1.4. not bad right? though I think that the glove will cost a lot. But they can use it selectively at first especially for the immunosuppressed patients and infected cases with Hepa B or HIV. It protects the patient and protects the medical team.

Antimicrobial suture technology, I was used to vicryl, chromic and the likes however they released a new type of suture that contained antimicrobial agents in the suture strands themselves now they're called vicryl PLUS. Studies show that bacteria adhere to the sutures that cause surgical site infections. The bacterias aggregate and may form biofilms which are harder to treat. They got the idea of treating sutures with antimicrobials from orthopedic implants that pretty much contain the same stuff.

It actually is kind of alarming because medicine may be involving and developing all sorts of technological advancements but so are the diseases. There is a terrible strain of microorganisms that have been found to be resistant to all forms of known antibiotics. It was also discussed in the seminar. It is called NDM-1 or New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase. NDM-1 is actually an enzyme that coats or protects the bacteria from all forms of known antibiotic. It was first discovered in Pakistan and Dr. Edmiston told us that there was also a suspected case in the states. It was first encountered in New Delhi with a patient suffering from Klebsiella Pnuemoniae on December 2009 and was reffered to as superbugs due to the fact that it is very difficult to treat. It usually appears on Gram Negative Bacterias like Escherichia Coli and Klebsiella Pneumoniae.

Scary isn't it? The more we try to develop technology to fight these infective microorganisms the more they grow resistant. I wanted to share what I've learned in the seminar and hopefully I see these changes in the health facilities here in the Philippines.

I was so excited when I got to watch this video, our very own Charice Pimpengco in the musical hit series GLEE!

Incredible voice for such a small girl, her rendition of Lady Gaga's telephone was totally awesome, and her character Sunshine's audition piece Listen pretty much left the cast blown away!

The acting was okay considering it's her first time and it was a nice touch that she was playing a character she can relate to.

Hoho... no that can't be real? can it? The dress will drip, smell and soon flies will find their way to the dress. Lady Gaga was constantly changing her outfits through out the MTV Music Awards but the meat dress... is on a totally different level.

So what do you think? What is she trying to tell everyone by wearing a meat dress.

Many people mostly vegans/vegetarians find this outfit repulsive. For people like me, my question lies on hygiene. How did she ever strut in a meat outfit and how the heck did that smell like?

Lady Gaga sought not to offend vegans being a vegetarian herself, the meat dress for her was a statement of what she believed in saying: "As you know, I'm the most judgment-free human being on the Earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening it's saying, 'If we don't stand up for what we believe in, if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones."

The meat dress was a sort of protest to the restrictions held by the government on gay soldiers.

She did a similar cover for the Vogue magazine sorting a two piece meat bikini.

Twenty two thousand screams in the Araneta for the 2010 UAAP Cheerdance competition. Schools like Ateneo de Manila, Adamson University, De Lasalle, National University, University of the Philippines, University of the East and University of Santo Tomas compete with backbreaking and sky high cheer stunts to bring prestige to their schools!

I am always excited every time the cheerdance competition comes up. The school spirit lives in every one of the competitors and supporters!

Fliptop Rap Battle interview on FHM

Fliptop Rap Battles are getting bigger and bigger here in the Philippines. The pioneers and organizers themselves were surprised at how the Filipinos welcomed the new sport. They said, they knew it would get big, but they were surprised how soon it happened.

Flip Top Battles are frequently held at Freedom Bar in Anonas Quezon City every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Even the most popular men's magazine took notice at the popularity Fliptop is getting. I'm excited because the organizers said the funds they collect may open doors for foreign acts, other Fliptop battle locations all over the Philippines and other events.

I hate to say this is true but it is... It's entertaining to watch people insulting each other. I know It's a mean thing to say but it's like boxing in words! :)

Venus made it to the Top 5 in the recent Miss Universe Pageant held in Las Vegas Nevada USA. Venus wowed the crowd with her very sexy two piece swimsuit and a very stunning silver evening gown. Venus Raj exuded so much confidence and grace when she strut the stage which automatically made her a crowd favorite.

I've been blogging about news, rap battles, celebrities and what not recently and I've been avoiding writing about personal stuff for fear of ridicule or empathy.

Thanks to a fellow blogger and his surprisingly enlightening articles about love and life, I've decided to make an entry.

I am in a very difficult situation where in I can't move forward. It feels like I gave my heart away and can't get it back just yet. My closest friends know about this things and they told me to stop getting myself into dead end situations and start entertaining people who are "good" for me.

I tried moving on several times believe me, but I guess my resolve wasn't that thick. I even wrote a letter. In all honesty, When I wrote that letter, I knew things would be different. But experiencing the difference was entirely different from imagining it. The hurt was real, the thing I dread the most was real. And I'm stuck because I keep asking myself how I'm supposed to get my heart back? How do you stop loving someone? Is that even possible?

I tried to be all mature about this things.

Letting go. sure, if you love em learn to let go right? quite the cliche, easier said than done. How do you let go of a person who isn't yours? was yours? will never be yours? The person doesn't even have the slightest idea that you are trying to let go. It's all in the brain, the hurdle, the hurt and the pain of letting go is known to the person who is trying to let go. The other party is going about with their daily routines, washing dishes, doing laundry without the slightest clue that another person is actually struggling to be free of him/her. always one sided, always tragic.

Loving the person that's best for you. I tried to do this, but it ended as soon as I started trying. Sure there are guys who treat you like a princess, but happiness is never in the things a person can do for you. I never ever loved anyone for the things he can do for me. It was always with how he made me feel. And because I'm like that... I suck. Because I consult my heart and never my head... I am eternally doomed.

I think there's something wrong with my capability to love and hate. Love is permanent and hate is like a 60 second drug. I envy people who can sustain hate, not that I am a pro hate person, just that they are more decisive, they move on faster and they detach easier. On the letting go department, the haters win.

I wish things could be simpler, easier and kinder for people like me.

I have no idea why I feel like it's February. No I'm not seeing anybody in particular, just hanging out with a couple of friends. Maybe I can blame it on my weird dreams? or maybe on the hormones? or Kina Granis! She's a wicked singer actually, I listened to all her songs and I play it over and over. I'm really glad she had her break from starting out as a Youtube artist and now having her own album!

Everytime I hear this song, it makes me dream. I recently read a fellow blogger's entry that he prefers "not" to dream for the simple fact that dreams don't always happen exactly as you planned or hoped it to be. Quite the pessimist but, there's truth to that. However, I'm not the kind to expect such things. My dreams aren't exactly detailed at all... their more of fragments. I am a bad architect, few details, few scenes. Yesternight? haha I'm making up terms here but I mean the night before... I dreamt a very good dream :)

Again fragments, I don't really know if it was lucid but I remember the scent, the feel of air on my face. It was the perfect date. a long drive to nowhere haha! But I think we were driving in the country side. Maybe on our way to the province. The clean cool air, trees, music, stories, and sandwiches. There was no plan, no particular destination. I didn't have to worry about time or a deadline. :)

I don't have a perfect date really, I think it depends on the person I'm with and how that person makes me feel. A perfect date can be a trip to the zoo, or a long walk at our village as long as I'm comfortable. Unplanned stuff are more my thing I guess, I don't need a fancy date I just need time. :)

Kuya Kim Atienza Suffers Mild Stroke

Kim Attienza or Kuya Kim as called by many is the weather man for various ABS-CBN news programs and TV host for programs Matanglawin. He is also one of the hosts of the popular morning talent show "Show Time". Kim Atienza suffered from a mild stroke according to sources today August 11, 2010.

Kim Atienza's driver told reporters that Mr. Atienza appeared not to feel well while they were on their way to ABS CBN for work. The reporter was brought to Philippine General Hospital and was transferred to Makati Medical Center.

His wife Fely Atienza told reporters that the TV personality is now conscious and able to move after doctors confirmed that he suffered from a mild stroke.

Kuya Kim Atienza started out in the TV industry in 2004 when he replaced the late Ernie Baron. With his exemplary news journalism skills, Kim Atienza was given breaks and major hosting assignments including Matanglawin which features segments about different animals and environmental phenomenas.

Kuya Kim Atienza is a known animal lover and enthusiast. Full of energy and quirky antics he is well loved by the masses.

Also, his dedication to work as seen during trying times such as the Ondoy and Pepeng Storm tragedies where in Kuya Kim saw to it that news, updates and storm warnings be delivered despite lack of sleep and rest.

The Spider Man Musical is directed by Julie Taymor, the first female who has ever won a Tony award for Best Direction for a Musical and Best Costume for the highly acclaimed Broadway musical The Lion King! Music by Bono, the famous lead vocalist of U2 one of the best live acts in the whole world having sold approximately 170 million album sales and 22 Grammy Awards! Bono will also be collaborating with The Edge, for music and lyrics. The Edge or David Howell Evans is one of the most respected guitar players of his time for having set the hallmark for U2's legendary music.

Casts include:

Reeve Carney as Peter Parker, Reve also stars in one of Julie Taymors movies the Tempest and is also a member of an up and coming rock band Carney with their latest single Love me, Chase me.

Shocked? I'm pretty sure you are if you've seen the cut! Emma Watson, who plays Hermione in the much celebrated Harry Potter series is now sporting a very short hair do. The cutting was done in New York's Cutller Salon. I've always loved her wavy locks, but maybe it's always identified with her character of so many years Hermione. And now that the movie is at its two part finale maybe it's the actress' way of graduating from the character!

The actress tells Entertainment Weekly,

I knew everyone was going to have an opinion, and I couldn’t deal with it. I have to get myself into a good place to deal with people saying things like, ‘It’s terrible! She looks like a boy!’ My dad already said that to me, actually. He said, ‘You’re not Audrey Hepburn yet, darling.-Emma Watson

I'm sure there are a lot of shocked fans out there when Emma Watson cut her hair. However when the shock subsides, people will truly appreciate how pretty she is for being able to sport different looks and still manage to look fabulous!

The final Chapter of the Harry Potter series will be shown in two parts, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 1 will be out in the cinemas on November 2010 and Part 2 will be out on July 2011.

Hollywood Young Stars assemble to Change the odds, and stand up to cancer.

It's pretty cool how these stars got together just to get the message about Cancer across especially with the younger generation. The Stand up to Cancer campaign or SUTC has brought together Hollywood starts like Dakota Fanning, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Andrew Garfield, Zachary Levi, Donald Faison, Jon Heder, Logan Lerman, Kristen Bell, Naya Rivera, Olivia Munn, Sofia Vassilieva, Clark Duke, William Moseley, Aubrey Plaza and Aaron Yoo.

People often are too busy and neglect their health. Cancer awareness will increase the chances of survival for the victims of this terrible disease.

Let me share a little experience I had with this disease. My grandmother died of stomach cancer. I was younger then, my mom, along with her siblings did not recognize that cancer was already affecting my grandmother until it was diagnosed on a much later stage. Surgery was done, but my grandmother was already very old and didn't have the energy to fully recover. My uncle died of prostate cancer, highly curable if diagnosed early, surgical removal of the prostate can even be done laparoscopically but because of lack of awareness, we lost him.

One thing is true for all cancers, if diagnosed late, even all the doctors in the world no matter how brilliant can battle with it successfully.

I have worked as an Operating Room nurse, and Colon resections, Mastectomys, Tumor surgeries and other life saving surgeries come in and out everyday because of cancer.

Let us start with this tips. Cancer can affect any organ system in the body. If you recognize these signs to be present in your body, please consult your physicians. Cancer in the earlier stages are highly curable, but cancer in the later stages take lives.

These are the symptoms:

C - Change in bathroom habits. Do you notice any changes in the consistency or frequency of your stools? are you loosing weight drastically?

A - A sore that does not heal. It is true that non healing sores are often related to Diabetes, however this can also be a sign of cancer.
U - Unusual discharge and bleeding.
T - Thickness or lumps in the breast and/or other places. Lumps can be normal depending on the where you are at your menstrual cycle, however it can also be a sign for breast cancer. Other lumps should also be reported to your doctor. A monthly breast self examination or testicular self exam can be done routinely for those at risk.
I - Indigestion and difficulty in swallowing. indigestion can be cause by various non cancer diseases, however if there is a tumor, the organ may be blocked because of tumor growth and changes occur.
O - Obvious changes in moles or warts. if there is a change in color, irregularity in shape unusual pigmentations, please consult your doctor.
N - Nagging cough and hoarseness. This symptom can be a sign of lung cancer, or related to GI cancers.

Perseids Meteor Shower on August 12, 2010

The Perseids Meteor shower is perhaps one of the most anticipated meteor showers because it shows tens to a hundred meteor showers every minute best seen in a cloudless and moonless night.

The name Perseids was coined for the meteor shower because astronomers believed their point of origin lies in the radiant constellation of Persius. The meteor shower has been seen in the last 2000 years. The Perseid Meteor shower or the Perseid cloud/debris stretches in the orbit of the comet Swift-Tuttle as it makes its way through its 130 year travel.

The meteor shower we will be seeing in August 12 may already be over a thousand years old.

Alongside this meteor shower, enthusiasts may even see the summer triangle formed by the starts Vega, Daneb and Altair. Truly a sight to behold.

There is also a chance for stargazers to see the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn joined by the crescent moon shortly after sunset.

Let's hope for a cloudless sky during those dates.

The stars amaze me, I remember reading my favorite encyclopedia about red giants and blue giants when I was a kid. Let's all look out to the sky on August 12 and make lots of wishes!

Car Theft Gang Leader Ivan Padilla dies in a shoot out

Ivan Padillia, the car theft gang leader that has been causing ruckus in the streets of the metro died after exchange of gunshots with the authority on Monday August 2, 2010.

Ivan Padilla was arrested after a bloody encounter with the National Capitol Region Police Office in Makati. The Ivan Padilla Gang was responsible for the series of car-napping incidents reported for the past week. Some of which involved well known personalities such as the parents of actor Derek Ramsey and Ambassador Roberto Romulo.

Two of the gang's members were arrested earlier, and lead to the success of the operation through the member's Facebook site. There was also a lead found in one of their female members' twitter site. The tweet gave the authorities information regarding their next operation. The gang members were believed to communicate through the social networking site and communicated in codes.

After the encounter, Padilla was brought to Ospital ng Makati where he died despite treatment efforts.

Questions are being raised regarding the arrest of the Car theft Leader. Padilla was severely wounded after the encounter, but videos of the incident proved that there was a delay in transporting Padilla to the hospital. An eager reporter even managed to secure an interview with Padilla, not knowing that the interviewee would later be dead despite efforts of the medical team to save him.

FLIP TOP: First Filipino Rap Battle League!

I am a fan of different things, and rap is one of them. My brother and I were sort of bonding when he introduced me to Flip Top: The First Filipino Rap Battle League. I would really like to attend one of these tournaments in person, it seems like the sport gained a lot of followers. I'm not surprised that it did though, if you guys want a good laugh, you might want to watch Flip Top. I think it would feel different if you catch the battle live. I'd like to observe how these cool people weave words rapidly. To be able to do so, your neurons will probably have to fire faster that your tongue. Rapping what your thinking and putting a rhyme, a beat or jive in it sounds extremely difficult to do.

It's a Rap Battle, it reminds me of Eminem's movie 8 miles. Flip Top isn't only about rap, its also a battle of wits. It's not easy doing free style rap, just like comedians, the content and the execution must capture the attention of the audience. The rappers have different personalities and styles, in this sport the rapper must certainly maintain a cool head. He must be able to take in his opponents words with a cool head and somehow come up with an answer in the form of rap.

I had fun listening and watching, It's really entertaining! One of my favorite rappers has got to be Loonie! He's really funny and witty. Zaido's not bad either but Loonie has the most bullets!

Pilipinas Win na Win, ABS-CBN's newest noon time show is set to premiere on Saturday July 31. Hosted by Robin Padilla, Kris Aquino and the three main stays of Wowowee Mariel Rodriguez, Pokwang and Valerie Conception.

Wowowee will be replaced by the said show after Wowowee's controversial host Willie Revilliame left the show earlier this year. Reasons for leaving the show was rumored to be due to the host's threatening words on the network regarding another talent.

Kris Aquino, labeled the Queen of All Media left the country for a vacation in the states after her decision to leave the talk show industry to protect her brother President Noynoy Aquino was elected into office.

Many question the actress/talk show host's decision to come back after her almost one month hiatus, but her best friend and fellow the buzz co host Boy Abunda clarifies that Kris Aquino's decision to leave was only confined on the talk show industry and not in drama, soaps and game shows. The actress only wanted to avoid talk shows where her opinion will be asked as part of the job.

Other talks also center about Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla's rumored relationship after the country witnessed the sweetness and continued appearances of them together in other showbiz events.

Wowowee started to air February 2005, hurdled by various tragic events such as the ULTRA stampede and cheat scandals, and Willie's controversial statements.

I can't wait to watch The Green Lantern Movie! It's supposed to be out next year in 2011 but the hype is really kicking in! I'm a big fan of the Justice Society of America or the Justice League of America. A character by DC comics, green lantern has got to be one of the coolest super hero characters out there!

Bestowed upon worthy individuals, I've always admired how the selection of the green lantern happens. Even more, I'm psyched whether the appearance of the Green Lantern Corpse along with the other green lanterns will be shown in the movie.

The Green Lantern's power is to wield physical objects out of nothing. A green meteor rock fashioned to be a ring, the one who posses this ring and has its allegiance definitely wields great power. Some of the coolest green power powers include th power to render once self invisible, telepathy, force fields, time freeze, time travel, flight and many more!

For excited fans out there, here's a sneak peak at the green lantern oath by Ryan Reynolds! requested by a kid who attended a Comic Con convention, it was pretty cool for him to grant the fans especially the kids a little preview of the Green Lantern Oath!

President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino's first State of the Nation Address

President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino delivered his first State of the Nation Address for the year 2010.

The State of the Nation Address (S.O.N.A) or Talumpati ng Kalagayan ng Pilipinas is when the President in a joint session with the Upper House/Senate and the Lower House/House of representatives makes a yearly report about the status of the country. Reports on the budget, budget deficits, different programs, changes in the departments, accomplishments of the administration, plans and other important actions that the government plans to partake.

The first SONA was delivered by none other than Andress Bonifacio, then known as the Status of the Katipunan, he outlined and reported the achievements of the Katipunan. Followed by the SONA made by Emillio Aguinaldo as head of state when he was made the first president of the Philippines.

President Noynoy Aquino's first SONA will be the benchmark of how he aims to change, answer the problems of the country. I expected to hear a lot of reports from the mistakes committed by the past administration, but I was still heart broken when I heard the facts. Though expected, to hear the facts straight from the government was disappointing. I am a tax payer, my mom pays an even larger amount equivalent to the salary I had when I worked in UST as a nurse.

I could still recall the time when the country faced rice shortages. Imagine, our country trained various other Asian countries in rice cultivation, and now we are importing products. What now becomes of our farmers? I have witnessed how people lined up outside government agencies to buy NFA rice, NFA rice were unavailable in markets and only Government issued agencies sold the grains. And now, President Noynoy tells the Philippines that our country imported thrice the shortage our country needed. What's worse is most of it only ended up spoiled in storage houses. Millions if not Billions of pesos wasted and Millions of Filipinos still starving.

I know how it feels like to be an employee, to be overworked, to be deprived of the benefits we deserve. I worked under a contract, no benefits, and a meeker 477 pesos per day, barely 10 thousand pesos if taxes were payed. Then there's MWSS, they had allowances amounting to more than our 2 years salary. up to the 30th months pay while most of us barely had our 13th months pay in full?

I am an ordinary citizen, and I am tired, tired but hopeful. I just wish the new administration will live up to their promises.

What to watch?

Am I the only one who hasn't watched Eclipse? The third Twilight saga installment that's been the talk of town for several decades? kidding.

I know what's going to happen, and frankly, I am not attracted at all to Edward's shimmering ghostly white skin. The first Twilight posters were great for my eyes, but the make up artist didn't quite measure up to the genius of Photoshop.

Jacob... he's nice to look at, maybe nice to touch? :D but not enough for me to spend on the movie. I can wait, until it's available for downloading.

What I want to watch is Inception, and Airbender. I've seen the trailer and it wowed me. Something worthy of Taters popcorn.

Now about Inception, All I know about it is that “it’s a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind,” taken from the trailer. I refuse to read about it, nor inquire about it because the trailer is so teasingly good I want to experience the movie without any biases or clues as to what it is about.

Now as for Airbender, if you are all familiar with the cartoon series Avatar, then you won;t miss this flick. There's been a lot of talk about not having enough asian actors on the movie, considering the setting and martial arts involved. Some people mind, some don't, I don't so I am going to watch the movie!

I may not be a fan of Twilight that much, but I am a fan of Harry Potter. Please don't judge me, I grew up with Harry! Harry Potter movies comfort me, just like the stuff I grew up with. The book was genius for me, the author was very successful in making this make believe world. I love the idea of magic. So... I'm really excited about the upcoming Harry Potter movie this November!

I guess that's it for now, three movies I'm waiting for, looking forward to watching :)

Harry potter and the Deathly Hollows Trailer out now!

Indeed the motion picture event of a generation, I remember meeting Harry Potter when I was in First Year Highschool. I was enchanted by this world Harry lived in and anticipated every adventure he had since his eleventh birthday.

The first part of the Final Book will be out this November 2010 and the second part on July 2011. I am relieved that they will be doing this movie in two parts because it postpones my saying goodbye to the series. The content of the final book itself is pooling with all the scenes that comprise important parts of the finale that author J.K. Rowling wanted to build up for the readers.

Action packed, magical and alluring, the Harry Potter hype definitely sustained its popularity and hold amongst its millions of readers. I'm sure I'm going to land myself a ticket as soon as it is available in our local cinemas, I wouldn't miss this for anything!

May Bukas Pa ends with Charo Santos reviving Santino???

I am a big fan of the sensational ABS CBN Soap Opera: May Bukas Pa, a story of Santino the miracle boy. The Soap Opera's fan base has grown so much that almost everybody in the Philippines has grown to address Jesus as "Bro".

Me and my family eagerly watched as the series came to an end, however I cannot help but fall of my seat when I saw Charo Santos' participation as Mama Mary. So many people are also tweeting about the ending of the story. Quite the perfect example of a hyperbolical ending.

I don't watch TV so much but I must commend the writers of the show. Unlike most soap operas which have been stretched out to maintain loyal followers and advertisers, the show never gave me the feeling that it was time for it to end. It has belonged in me and my family's daily routines. I will miss the show.

With so many broken and dysfunctional families out there, the show may have instilled quite a lot of values in them.

MESSAGE FOR THE PRESIDENT

Dear Present and Future President,

I just came home from Heart Centre of the Philippines, without sleep, contact lenses on for more than 24 hours, driving at 4am in the morning. Why?

Because I accompanied my uncle who suffered an M.I. (myocardial infarction/heart attack) earlier this evening. He went to the hospital earlier to get a check up, later advised to undergo echocardiogram because of abnormal findings in his ECG readings. Thing is, despite the need to be confined, he was asked to go home instead and await the hospitals call if there were available rooms already.

Later in the evening despite our efforts to provide a resting environment for my uncle, he awoke complaining of chest pain. again. I decided to bring him back, at least if anything happened immediate medical attention will be available to him.

When we got to the emergency room, patients all ages and sizes lined up awaiting to be accommodated by the Emergency Room Staff. There were too much patients for the staff, doctors on duty that night. I even overheard that they had human time bombs: 3 patients suffering from Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. To top it all off, more than 10 patients are still awaiting to be interviewed, monitored or be given a decent ER bed. They (including my uncle) were sitting on the bench, waiting and waiting to get proper medical attention. The hospital staff were doing all they can, not one was lagging behind to catch up with the needs of the patients but there were just too many.

2 patients could not even stand the waiting and opted to sign DAMA (discharge against medical advise) which lets the hospital off the hook if ever something happens despite their advise to stay and wait for medical attention. In signing the DAMA, the patients are not entitled to go back to the hospital for 24 hours even if they experience the symptoms again. The situation was just too uncomfortable.

My uncle, who came around 8pm in the evening seeking to be alleviated and attended to because he was experiencing chest pain only got to rest in a decent bed around 2:30am in the morning, hooked to oxygen at around 3 am in the morning and no monitors hooked at all. The nurses and doctors were at their feet at the second, tired, understaffed and drained medical staff affects their ability to give care. no matter how genius you are, your powerless against that kind of demand.

This was already his second attack, post angioplasty and a candidate for kidney transplant sometime this year.

There are so many sick individuals, Heart center was overflowing, and most could not even afford to get an ECG because they cannot pay for it.

This situation irritates me, I pay my taxes, I work hard and the government only gets and gets from the salary I make. Yet, I see no improvement, the sick are only getting sicker, the rich getting richer and richer from too much corruption.

I love my country, but I am thinking of working abroad and hopefully migrate in hopes that when my mom needs medical care, it will be free, abrupt and worthy of the work I had to go through just to pay my taxes.

I just watched 500 days of summer.

The title of the film does not aim to give us a witty form of metaphor... just the 500 days that Tom had to go through after falling in love and getting over Summer.

I don't really know what to write about it yet but i jolted down some lines from the movie that I really liked.

You can't ascribe great cosmic significance to a simple earthly event. Coincidence. That's all anything ever is. Nothing more than coincidence.

I think, that when we like something, we have the capacity to turn some coincidental event into something more just to justify why we like that something. fooling ourselves to believe that it was destined, meant to be...

As he listened, Tom began to realize that these stories weren't routinely told. These were stories one had to earn. He could feel the wall coming down. He wondered if anyone else had made it this far.

They're just untold stories... and it just happened that the timing, the mood, the topic of conversation was right. Sometimes it's because you seem like the right person to hear about it but it doesn't signify a connection, a budding relationship or love.

Tom: What happened? Why - why didn't they work out?
Summer: What always happens. Life.

I don't know what to say... I've been here 24 years but I think I will never or claim to know anything about Life. It just happens and there's nothing I can do about it.

Most days of the year are unremarkable. They begin and they end with no lasting memory made in between. Most days have no impact on the course of a life.

That's why when I remember a particular day with a particular person, I know that that person is significant enough to be remarkable. I ask myself, if I lay in bed and remember, think about or spend two seconds trying to remember it must've made an impact on my life.

Summer: I woke up one morning and I just knew.
Tom: Knew what?
Summer: What I was never sure of with you.

I was pretty sure the first time I met him at the corner of our street. especially when he came all the way just to see me for 15 minutes. But I'm not any more. It happens, but it also... goes away.

Look, I know you think she was the one, but I don't. Now, I think you're just remembering the good stuff. Next time you look back, I, uh, I really think you should look again.

Look again! it's like debating with your own self. trying to make the good stuff surface while keeping the nad stuff underneath. If it was magical, unbelievably wonderful, you won't even be sitting there trying to remember. You'll be out there making new memories with her/him.
